Sheet Music Wall Table

If you’ve seen my Facebook page, then you’ve seen this table

    Isn’t she lovely?

I found her on Craigslist. I have to say, she sure does look a whole lot better than she did when we brought her home. She was dirty and her veneer was chipped away.

She had definitely seen better days.

I wonder what story she would tell if she could. Perhaps she once sat in a little parlor; collecting calling cards, listening to ladies visiting over tea, or holding a tray of petit fours while enjoying someone playing the piano at an evening gathering.

    That’s what I imagine.

I started her makeover by painting her with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and followed with wax buffed to a soft sheen. The chipped veneer was filled in with wood filler and sanded smooth, and then I covered the top with vintage sheet music. I coated the top with 3 coats of polycrylic, so she is still just as useful as she is beautiful. I lightly distressed her in just a few places. She’s wearing a new gown, but she isn’t just another pretty young thing. She is wise AND beautiful. And just look at those legs!

    1. LOVE the table. I have one with a messed up top that I was debating what to do with and this is wonderful inspiration!

      1. Thank you! The hardest part was coming to terms with not being able to save the chipping veneer. I had originally thought I’d restain the top and paint the base, but I like this look even better.

    2. I’m visiting from French Country Cottage and I’m so glad to be here. inspiration is just what I need tonight as i have a couple of furniture makeover projects wating for me this weekend.
I love love love the way you transformed your table. it is now such a unique piece and adding music sheet is just the perfect final touch.
      have a great weekend.

    3. Hi – can’t believe it. I found the exact table on terrible condition on Craigslist also – on Long Island. I paid $25 for it and the woman who sold it toe three in a free chair that I have to do something with. I finished it with ASCP old white also. I also put some mixes of blues and grays on the little knob areas. The veneer on top is terrible – I still have to do something with it. I was thinking of adding an antiqued mirror on top. I love what you did with yours.

I don’t have the best before pics. I will let you know when I finish because I want to do a post on it – I could include yours as an optional way to finish it! Great job!

      1. I love the idea of putting an antique mirror on top of a table! I can’t wait to see pictures when you’re done. It sounds beautiful! I thought about adding another color to highlight the details, but I was afraid i’d mess it up. 🙂

    4. Very, very pretty! I love the shape and the softness of the piece. You did a great job refinishing and bring this table back to life. I’d love for you to share this or anything homey on my Your Cozy Home Party tomorrow.
