Making Way

I’ve been sewing a lot this week. Like, more than I have this whole year, a lot (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see a few hints of a little of what I’ve been making). And I’ve been loving every second of it. I’ve learned a few things while I’ve been at my task, and not just about the mechanics of sewing. I’ve learned a bit about myself, and if I’m able to put actual words to my scrambled thoughts, I’ll write them and and share them. But let’s just say that my sewing machine is my happy place.

And there’s been a side effect to all the stitching. Since I’ve been focusing so much on sewing, I haven’t been spending a lot of time on keeping the Littles occupied, so they’re left to amuse themselves more than normal. My being out of the way, has been making way for them to create on their own.  Yes, they’ve watched more Wild Kratts than normal, and we found a Heidi series that they’re enjoying, but they’re also making.  Our week has been full of making bows and arrows, purses, pillows, tea parties, walking and scouting and climbing and making maps, and, yes, it’s gotten a little messy here and there.  But the messes are a small price to pay to watch them formulate a plan, gather the materials, and then bring the thing of their imagining into reality.  This making of theirs, I need to make way for it more often.

(Yes, that is my son sitting on the roof of the old chicken coop. Why? Well, why not?)
