Merry Christmas! Yes, I know it’s January. But I gave my son an unfinished gift for Christmas with the promise to finish it very soon. (I actually think I told him I’d finish it the week after Christmas. Silly me.)
Zach had asked for a black and white quilt to go with his black and white room. We actually picked out the fabrics back in August, I think. I saw a fun quilt in Block Party – The Modern Quilting Bee , the Connect the Dots quilt, and decided to use that style for Zach’s quilt.
I had all the piecing done and basted it and did some of the quilting before Christmas, but that was as far as I got. I couldn’t decide how to quilt it, and ran out of time, and, well, here we are in January. I finished the quilting part last week and was determined to get it the binding sewn on and delivered to him by the end of this past weekend. You know what? I did it!
I had some “help” with the quilting. (This is Rufus. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen him before. He loves to hang out right behind my sewing machine when I’m working.) I ended up doing a freestyle zigzag for the quilting on each block, stopping at each circle to make it look like the zigzag continued behind the circle. I’m not sure what I was thinking, as turning this oversize twin quilt multiple times under my machine was not exactly easy and relaxing.
But, it is done. And he loves it! Zach’s the one holding it for me so I could take the picture. Say “Hi” to Zach!
