The Cluster Birthdays

With seven children in our family, the chances of having two birthdays close together were pretty high.  We got that out of the way pretty quickly with our first two children, whose birthdays are three days apart (and four years, lest someone misunderstand and think they’re twins).   Our next three children are a little more evenly spaced throughout the year, though they do occur within less than two months of each other.

Then, our last two children were born.  Scattered birthdays?  Oh no.  The last two have birthdays that sandwich the first two.  Confused?  In late August – mid September, we celebrate four birthdays within 3 weeks.  Now that our oldest two live far away our celebrations are quieter, but I do dream of having one great big birthday party for all four of them all at once.

Now that you know more than you wanted to about our family’s birth dates, we just celebrated Silas’ sixth and Sophie’s eighth birthdays.  We go for a pretty simple celebration with the birthday person choosing the meal and dessert (cupcakes for Silas, pies for Sophie).  Sophie absolutely loves to bake, so she was so excited to help.  And I was so excited to finally have our new countertops in place, delivered just three days ago, to make the baking process so much easier and more enjoyable.  (I’ll try and take good pictures of the kitchen and show you what it looks like later this week.)

So, here are a whole lot of pictures from our two most recent birthdays.  I have a whole lot of emotion that goes along with my youngest two children turning six and eight, but I’m still processing through that and can’t even begin to share it.  Also,  just to give you a better idea of our cluster birthdays, my husband and I celebrate one day apart, and my three grandchildren have birthdays that are just over a month apart.  We take “close family” to a new level. 😉

    1. What an expressive guy you have there! And darling girls! I love your photos of pie baking and celebrating!

I have 6 kids – 28, 25, 23, 18, 15, and 12. And three grandbabies, 2 of whom were born less than 24 hours apart but on October 10th and 11th! ‘Twin’ cousins!

      1. Thanks, Deanna! Our older children are pretty close in ages – 29, 25, 18, 16. Then I have a gap to my Littles who are 9, 8 and 6. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to get away with calling them “Littles”.

How fun for the cousins to be able celebrate together as they grow up!
