Oh, the Snow!

It’s almost spring, my calendar says.  It’s almost spring, the changing of the clocks tell us.  It’s almost spring, according to every clothing catalog that (still! though I’ve tried to cancel most) arrive in my mailbox.  And yet, here in Maine, it is very definitely not looking like almost spring.

This week brought another Nor’easter, and that nor’easter brought snow – a whole lot of snow.  2 feet of it.  It will, I hope, melt fast.  But when you have piles of it that are over 7 feet tall, I do wonder if we’ll still have snow in June. It’s not terrible though.  The snow is much better to me than the bitter cold temperatures we had earlier this winter, and I’ve been able to spend a little more time knitting than I normally would this time of year.

I do regret though, that we didn’t tap our maple trees this year.  I very much wanted to, but Husband insisted that we really didn’t have time to add one more thing to our very full lives right now, so we aren’t boiling sap, and there’s no fresh syrup for our pantry.  The biggest regret is that after a sugar snow like we just had, the sap flows so well and abundantly.  I feel like i’m not participating in the season when I’m not out there gathering buckets of sap to haul to the house for boiling.  But then again, I’m rather grateful that I’m not out there in deep fresh snow trying to gather heavy buckets of sap to haul to the house for boiling.  🙂
