Ten

We celebrated Emma’s 10th birthday over the weekend.  Ten.  Ten?  Really?  Ten.  I’m trying to get used to it by saying it over and over.  She’s the oldest of our Littles, but 10 isn’t very little, is it?

We gave her a new bike for her birthday, one with a kickstand (her first bike with a kickstand!) and adjustable speeds.  She was pretty excited when Husband wheeled it in for her to see.  I think she had forgotten that she asked for one, but a new bike is such a great way to enjoy our final move into spring weather, even if she needs to where a jacket to ride.

I never know if I should take videos of the children blowing out their candles or pictures.  Pictures are nice to print and look back on, but video captures her barely-able-to-take-a-breath laugh at our traditional rendition of “Happy Birthday”.  You see, we sing off key.  On purpose.  It’s a great way to get even the shyest singer to join in, because you can’t do it wrong.  In fact, the more wrong you sing it, the better.  And judging by Emma’s reaction, I think we did a pretty great job.

Dance recital photos were taken on the day of her birthday, and she asked for curls.  I snapped these in the morning as she sat by the windows, enjoying the sun, with her hair in rag rolls and typing messages.  She has no idea how lovely she is.

    Happy Birthday, sweet Emma.
