I usually try to paint on Sunday evenings, but once I saw the pattern to make a little owl my hands itched to get to sewing. A rummage through my fabric scraps and I found a collection of black and white fabrics that I think were left over from when I made Zach’s quilt so many years ago. I had originally intended to make it look more scrappy, but the coordinating prints were calling to become something new. Two matching buttons came from a quick search in my button jar, and a bit of wool felt was used for the beak and eyes.
I’m not sure what the little owl’s name is yet. He’s been very quiet, and I really do think he’s still acclimating to having form and shape so suddenly after spending so much time as fabric scraps. He seems to be rather content to perch in a quiet corner and observe the activity in our little home.
I do think he needs a little friend though, so I need to make time to sew a companion for him so he isn’t lonely.
The slow work of hand stitching and creating something just for the simple joy of the making is such a pleasant way to spend an evening, don’t you agree?
