Finally

    A favorite flower opened today.

It’s been in this spot for a few years now, but I didn’t plant it there. Must’ve been squirrel gardeners.

I’ve left it because, well, why not? Who am I to say where a crocus should or shouldn’t be planted? It’s lovely where it is. We have to walk around it, but that’s what makes us notice its beauty.

    Walk.

See the first bloom of the year.

    Stop.

Admire the color and the way it captures the sunlight.

    Take another step.

    Pause.

    Slight change of direction.

Admire deep purple and the crisp contrasting yellow. Appreciate the details of God’s artistry.

    Take another step.

Look again to be certain it’s still safe and beautiful.

Breathe in the cool spring air and notice all the details of the day.

All because a squirrel planted a crocus in the middle of a path.

What a beautiful idea that was.
