Blizzard

The winter started out so mild, but in the last week or so, it has made up for it.  We went from just a covering of snow on the ground, maybe 6″ or so, to feet.  We were only supposed to get 3″ or so on Saturday, but ended up with more than 8″.  Then Sunday’s storm came, starting around 5:00, and not ending until late Monday.

Since we live in such a small and remote area, I don’t know what the official totals are, but I’d put it around 30″.  Yes, 2 1/2 feet of snow in 24 hours.  Husband worked from home all day (I’m so grateful he has a job that allows that flexibility sometimes) and he took a few breaks in his day to move some snow.  The snow was so deep by Monday morning that he got his truck and plow stuck, and had to use the snow blower to clear it.

We had expected power outages because of the winds, but our power stayed on the whole time, though we did fill the tub with water just in case (no power = no water, no water = no flushing toilets).   The kids all enjoyed the snow break and the Middles enjoyed the cancelled classes and freedom for the day.  As for me, I enjoyed staying in my nice warm home with my family nearby, and even got some knitting and drawing done.

And now that winter has finally arrived, it’s going to stick around for a bit.  We have another foot or so coming tomorrow.
