Rope Basket for Easter

I did a little rope basket sewing the other day.  Most of the baskets I make don’t have handles, or they have handles that collapse down to the top of the basket, but since Easter is coming, I thought I’d make a traditional looking Easter rope basket.

I have hopes of making baskets for each of our children still at home, so that would be five.  I also thought I’d make three to five of these baskets to put in my shop.   But since my sewing time is rather limited these days, I’m going to list this one now, and hope that I have time to make more later.

I had fun figuring out how to make the handle blend in with the basket.  The whole basket is made from one length of rope.  It hasn’t been cut and pieced at all, so the handle is fully part of the basket.  I think it adds an interesting dimension to the appearance.

Of course, this basket doesn’t need to be only for Easter.  It’s a generous size (13″ diameter by 5″ tall not including handles), and I can easily see it being used to carry a picnic lunch and a book to the garden or perhaps a knitting project.
