Husband’s Favorite Garden

Our home is surrounded by several beautiful flower gardens. We didn’t plant all of them ourselves – the previous homeowners maintained beautiful gardens and we were blessed to take over the care and maintenance of them. We’ve changed a few things, adding more beds, and relocating others. My husband recently told me that he has a favorite garden, and that’s the one we planted together. We didn’t have a plan in place when we established this garden bed. We knew we wanted it to have roses, but we didn’t have any other big ideas. So this garden grew little by little as new plants and flowers came our way, mostly by dividing from other gardens.

In the early spring there are pink tulips, though not as many as I’d like and I plan on adding more this fall. We also planted chives, irises, mountain bluet, lavender, sage, thyme. The chives are beginning to take over, and the irises need to be divided again soon, – a gardener’s work is never done.

I love that we can see this garden from all the windows in the front of our home. I love that it came about with much of a formal plan, just a tucking in here and there of favorite plants. But I love most of all that it’s my husband’s favorite garden simply because we planted it together.
